Is expensive technology always the answer to problems? The latest development in the GT200 controversy is that the government plans to procure dearer machines - the Fido and Sabre 4000 - which cost up to Bt4 million a piece to replace the "ineffective" Bt1-million GT200 that has been an Bt800-million embarrassment for the government.

The Private Security Industry Act 2001 requires the licensing of all security officers and company directors. The SIA has also established a voluntary "system of inspection for providers of security services, under which those organisations who satisfactorily meet the agreed standards may be registered as approved, and may advertise themselves as such. There is therefore a need to assess contractor’s health & safety arrangements and increasingly this is being carried out through SAFE contractor. Many large organisations now use Safe contractor as their primary means of selecting contractors. |

The BIPDT has established the highest code of conduct for all persons connected with the use of dogs in the service of mankind. By means of training courses and examinations for instructors, trainers and handlers, it raises the standard of training, management, welfare and usage of working dogs.
